According to the Observatory of the Francophone World, 85% of French speakers will reside in Africa by 2060. West Africa, where literary creation is thriving, represents a major future for Francophone literature. Yet, no local media currently covers the literary news of this region with a focus on developing a regional readership and fostering international dissemination.
In partnership with the association Point de Lecture (Côte d’Ivoire), and with the support of the Centre National du Livre, the French Embassy in Côte d’Ivoire, and the Institut Français, the Théâtre des Arts Vivants is supporting the co-creation of a digital literary media outlet based in Côte d’Ivoire.
Designed for young people (with 75% of the population under the age of 35), this media platform will offer an innovative transmedia experience — video capsules, mini-documentaries, reviews, short formats — and will be fully deployed on social networks, to help build today the readership of tomorrow.
The initial phase includes designing the website and its mobile version, training future contributors, engaging local book industry stakeholders, as well as communication and promotional actions. The official launch of the platform is planned for 2026.
More than just a media outlet, this project aspires to contribute to a global literary space enriched by the wealth of African imagination, fostering intercultural dialogue and the creation of renewed shared narratives.
Enhance the discoverability of West African literary talent at both regional and international levels through an innovative digital strategy.
Broaden and diversify the readership, particularly among young people, to strengthen the culture of books and reading.
Contribute to the structuring of the book ecosystem in West Africa by fostering exchanges of professional practices and discussions around the sector’s current issues.
Support the emergence of an inclusive and decentralized Francophone literary space.
Offer an endogenous analysis of West African literature.
Promote and highlight young authors from the region.
