Artistic Exploration in Northern India

Au cours d'un voyage de deux semaines, nous avons traversé le sous-continent d’Est en Ouest, où nous avons pu découvrir un nombre impressionnant de musiciens, de danseurs, de comédiens ainsi que de lieux et de cultures qui font la richesse de cet région.

In 2022, the Théâtre des Arts Vivants was invited by Amitava Bhattacharya, founder and director of the Indian NGO Banglatanak, an organization accredited by UNESCO since 2004. This organization aims to integrate artistic and cultural practices into a strategy for inclusive and sustainable development. It was an opportunity to discover the dynamism and remarkable ingenuity of this team, which supports a spectacular network of over 45,000 artists.

Banglatanak provided us with its logistical resources, allowing us to discover the artistic wealth of northern India. During a two-week journey, we traveled across the subcontinent from east to west, encountering an impressive array of musicians, dancers, actors, as well as the places and cultures that make this region so rich.

Project and Research

  • Meeting and exchanging with the Banglatanak team: In-depth dialogues to understand their initiatives and methods.
  • Observing the organization’s actions in the field: Direct analysis of Banglatanak’s impact and methods within the artistic community.
  • Meeting artists and discovering their art: Interactions with musicians, dancers, and actors to grasp the essence of their work.
  • Audio and video recording of artistic performances: Capturing performances for documentation and future dissemination.
  • Discovering dedicated venues: Visiting cultural and artistic spaces used by the organization and local artists.
  • Participating in workshops: Actively engaging in workshops for full immersion and hands-on learning.
